Ruthie’s Tea for Two Garden Party!

March 3, 2017 by thecocoacakery Leave a Comment

Ahh my baby! She's TWO!! I feel like I just had her first birthday bash (a Parisian bash, which you can see right here), and now we're already celebrating TWO years??? I feel like when we become mothers we get programmed with the same sayings "I think time just needs to slow down", "How are they .... old already?" or "Where's the pause button?"... But it's because we really can't even fathom how quickly they go through all of these stages and change so much. Ruth is our youngest and my last baby, so I feel like I'm saying these things a lot, however I'm also really enjoying seeing her grow up and be able to do the things she really wants to do with her siblings. And I also am not a huge fan of the toddler phase ... soooo.... part of me isn't wishing this time would slow down, but maybe just go at a normal pace ;) I decided it would be fun, (and was inspired by a friend who also did a similar concept) to have her party on a weekday morning with a bunch of mom friends who were home … [Read more...]

Simply lace makes it Simply stunning

I have for a long time.. I mean a looooonnngg time been telling you about the beautiful work from Bruna of Simply Lace Photography.  When she asked me to have some fun for her mom's surprise party and gave me her colour scheme - I was hooked.  Not only does she have good taste, but she gives me free reign and then takes beautiful photographs of everything!?!??! What more could a little cake-artist ask for??? Oh right. She's sweet and lovely to work with =) So without further ado- here's how it all came together... Pretty hand painted watercolour flowers on a black and white striped cake with a gorgeous coral and blush sugar peony on top. Delicate little green wafer paper  and shimmery gold leaves to top it off.  The cake flavour is one of our big sellers, strawberry delight with vanilla swiss meringue buttercream. YUM.           Below is her sweet mamma and dad as they surprise her with their party and treats.   We HAD to make … [Read more...]

From inspiration to cake

Ever wonder how a cake gets designed? Who makes the final call on  cake design or theme? How does it all work? Here's a little insight with a recent cake I created! Sometimes you meet with a client and they have lots of pictures of what they'd like, and it's easy to compile and create a cake sketch based on all their ideas and wishes. Other times you just get a few pointers and free rein. This can either be exhilarating and the best thing since sliced bread or a major case of writers block. It really depends on whether you enjoy the subject. When the subject is cake design being inspired is definitely key! For this cake I asked the client what she liked and she said: PURPLE!  (I need to admit that purple is probably one of my least favourite colours - shocking to some, I know - but deal with it,  I'm a aqua- seafoam/pink/white/gold fan, I also can't choose any specific favourite).  Since PURPLE doesn't really steer me down one specific path for a sixteen year olds cake, I … [Read more...]

Summer Wedding at Waterstone Estates

One of my favourite things is to get images from brides after their weddings... of course of the cake (my photo's never do it justice, plus their photographer has been hand selected to go with the feel of the day, so why wouldn't their images just be the most perfect ones?!!?) but especially of them cutting the cake and extra little details of the day... Laura's wedding cake design was based off of her invitations, and the lace pattern replicated and hand piped in royal icing. The burlap on the cake is actually edible, made to look textured from fondant. Her flowers for the day were bright and cheerful set against all the rustic woods, greens and burlap of the horse farm. So we created a variety of bright sugar flowers in little posies to adorn the cake. Laura created a space that looked perfectly placed, warm and welcoming.. and feat for someone who only saw the venue once or twice and planned everything from across the country. Well done Laura! This beautiful bride Laura and … [Read more...]
